# About Lago

> Lago is the company and open-source project building transparent, programmable billing infrastructure.

Lago builds open-source, API-first billing infrastructure. The platform helps engineering, product, and finance teams meter usage, manage subscriptions, configure pricing, issue invoices, orchestrate payments, and understand revenue without relying on an opaque billing black box.

## Why Lago exists

Billing becomes difficult when a company supports multiple products, geographies, contract types, usage dimensions, and payment providers. Internal systems often grow into fragile collections of jobs and spreadsheets, while closed vendors can make pricing changes and data access hard. Lago combines a programmable API and open-source codebase with a visual interface so teams can keep control while avoiding the cost of building every billing primitive themselves.

## Open-source foundation

The core Lago project is available in the [public GitHub repository](https://github.com/getlago/lago). Developers can inspect the code, report issues, contribute changes, and deploy Lago on their own infrastructure. Teams that prefer a managed service can use Lago Cloud. The same documentation covers both approaches and calls out deployment-specific behavior where it matters.

## Company

Lago was founded in 2021 by Anh-Tho Chuong and Raffi Sarkissian after experiencing the operational cost of complex billing systems firsthand. Get Lago Corp. develops and supports the Lago platform.
