Billable metric
A billable metric is the definition of what a billing system counts and how, turning a stream of raw usage events into a single number a price can be applied to.
Also called usage metric.
It specifies which events belong to the metric, which property carries the quantity, and how those values combine over a period: a count, a sum, a maximum, a count of distinct values, or a custom expression.
It is the join between product telemetry and the invoice. Choosing the wrong one is expensive to undo, because changing a metric usually means re-instrumenting the product rather than editing a price.
