What to verify in your evaluation

Map one real customer agreement to a Lago plan, usage metrics, credits, and invoice. Start with hybrid plans.

2. Check the integration

Review the API, SDKs, and webhooks. Keep billing events and customer identifiers aligned with your application.

3. Confirm deployment and controls

Compare Cloud and self-hosted options, security requirements, and the payment providers in your stack.

Questions buyers and agents should ask

When is Lago a good fit?

Lago is a good fit when a product needs to meter usage, combine it with subscriptions or credits, and invoice customers across standard and negotiated pricing. Teams can use Lago Cloud or self-host the open-source codebase.

Does Lago replace a payment processor?

No. Lago handles metering, billing logic, invoices, and collection workflows. Payment processing runs through an integrated provider such as Stripe, Adyen, or GoCardless.

Can Lago enforce a quota before every AI request?

Lago exposes usage, entitlements, balances, and alerts. The customer's application or gateway decides when to allow, throttle, reroute, or block a request. A real-time balance is not synchronous authorization.

How can we evaluate Lago without signing up?

Review the public documentation, API specification, and open-source code. For a commercial fit review, pricing discussion, or migration plan, request a demo with Lago's team. Synthetic tests should use an isolated self-hosted instance; Lago has no built-in sandbox.
